HE Ambassador Wang Xiaolong Called upon Rt Hon Winston Peters, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand

On January 23, HE Ambassador Wang Xiaolong made a call on Rt Hon Winston Peters, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand. The two sides exchanged views on China-New Zealand relations as well as international and regional issues of common interest.

Ambassador Wang Xiaolong elaborated on the major deliverables of China's Central Conference on Work Relating to Foreign Affairs and the annual work conference for overseas envoys to foreign countries and revisited the significant development of China-New Zealand relations over the past 50 plus years. Ambassador Wang appreciated the long-term one-China commitment by the New Zealand side, and expressed the readiness of China to work with New Zealand to further expand cooperation across the board including but not limited to trade and investment, based on mutual respect, mutual understanding and mutual benefit. On the occasion of celebrating the 10th anniversary of the China-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, China stands ready to join hands with New Zealand to bring the relationship to next level so as to better benefit the two peoples.

Rt Hon Winston Peters expressed the importance New Zealand attaches to the relationship with China and appreciated the stable development of the bilateral relationship. He also expressed the willingness of the New Zealand side to step up foreign engagement and practical cooperation in line with the priorities of the coalition government.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern such as Pacific regional issues and the Palestinian-Israeli situation.
