In the morning of May 5 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met with Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma of the African Union Commission (AUC) at the headquarters of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa.

Li Keqiang said that the AU serves as a flag leading the unity and progress of the African countries and exerts an increasingly important influence in Africa and the world at large. The Chinese side has always viewed China-AU relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, and firmly supported the AU to play a guiding role in the African integration process, a leading role in safeguarding peace and security of Africa, and a greater role in regional and international affairs. China is willing to enhance high-level exchanges with the AU, give full play to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and other strategic dialogue mechanisms, and strengthen exchanges of experience on governance and administration of state affairs, so as to elevate the bilateral relations to a higher level.

Li Keqiang expressed that China firmly supports the peace and security cause of Africa. The solution for the issue of peace and security requires to address both the symptoms and root causes, with the root causes as a focus. China supports Africa for its reasonable appeal and claims of Africa in the United Nations (UN) and other occasions, and is always committed to cooperating, seeking development and improving people's livelihood with Africa. China is willing to continue the communication and cooperation with Africa in agriculture, industrialization, poverty reduction, health care, infrastructure and other fields, offering more assistance in human resources development, personnel training and other fields.

Dlamini-Zuma said that as a sincere friend of Africa, China has stood side by side with Africa in its struggle for national liberation, and always firmly supported Africa in realizing peace and development, in achieving regional integration, and in raising its voice on international affairs. The African countries are willing to learn from China for development experience, to deepen cooperation, and to realize a greater development, and to join hands with China promoting the establishment of a more just and rational international order. The AUC will continue to play a positive role in boosting Africa-China relations.

Following the meeting, Li Keqiang and Zuma together witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperative documents in the fields of economy, technology and infrastructure. China and Africa issued a joint statement on comprehensively deepening friendly cooperation and an outline on strengthening cooperation on poverty reduction.

Li Keqiang visited the AU Conference Center, which was constructed with the aid of China.
