China's top legislator Zhang Dejiang met with New Zealand Governor-General Jerry Mateparae on Wednesday, pledging closer parliamentary exchanges between the two countries.
During the meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Zhang hailed the important consensus Mateparae reached with Chinese President Xi Jinping on improving bilateral ties during his ongoing China visit.
The two countries should integrate their development plans to make their partnership more effective, said Zhang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC).
The NPC is ready to have more dialogues and cooperate more with the New Zealand Parliament, share experience in legislation, supervision and governance, and build platforms for cultural exchanges and regional cooperation, he said.
Mateparae vowed to promote cooperation between the two parliaments, cement understanding and friendship between the two peoples and inject new vitality to bilateral ties.
Invited by President Xi, Mateparae is on a state visit to China from Monday to Thursday.
