Wu made positive comments on bilateral ties, saying Colombia is an influential country in Latin America. China attaches great importance to developing relations with Colombia. Wu said Colombia's strive for national stability, economic growth and better livelihoods for its people in recent years has made remarkable achievements and offers new opportunities for bilateral cooperation. During his current visit, President Santos reached new important consensus with Chinese leaders on deepening friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries and signed a series of documents on bilateral cooperation, which gives a new impetus to the ties. China will work with Colombia to implement the leaders' consensus and materialize the strong will and great potential for cooperation into substantial achievements for the benefit of both peoples, he said.
Wu said that parliamentary exchanges are an important part of state-to-state relations. In recent years, China's National People's Congress and the Congress of Colombia have maintained close and friendly relations as well as good cooperation in international and regional parliamentary organizations including the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Latin America Parliament. The NPC of China attaches importance to developing friendly and cooperative relations with the Colombian Congress and is willing to continue to actively carry out exchanges and cooperation in various forms to enhance the friendship between the peoples, and contribute to the sound and stable development of bilateral relations.
Santos said since the establishment of diplomatic relations 32 years ago, bilateral relations have been strengthened continuously with frequent bilateral high-level visits, deepening mutual understanding and fruitful economic and trade cooperation. At present, the Asia-Pacific and Latin America have accelerated their development and in the context of rising importance of the emerging markets, Colombia will strengthen cooperation with China in various fields, including between the legislative bodies, to achieve common development, which is not only conducive to the development and prosperity of their respective countries, but also conducive to regional peace and stability. Santos also reiterated that Colombia will firmly stick to the one-China policy.
