On May 4, 2012, Chinese President Hu Jintao's special representatives Vice Premier Wang Qishan and State Councilor Dai Bingguo and President Barack Obama's special representatives Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to the fourth round of the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) jointly met the representatives of Chinese and the US entrepreneurs.
Wang said that this round of S&ED is very successful and will create new opportunities for the business cooperation between both sides. The entrepreneurs present here are the participants and promoters of China-US economic cooperation. Their story of success reflects the win-win nature of China-US economic cooperation. Enterprises are the main players of business cooperation between the two countries. The Chinese government expects to work with the US government to constantly optimize the investment environment and create more business opportunities for companies of both sides.
After listening to the remarks of the Chinese and the US business representatives, Wang noted that in the process of promoting China-US economic cooperation the role of enterprises and market should be given full play to. The introduction and suggestions made by the entrepreneurs are very good and inspiring. Some comments are very straight-forward and even a little harsh, but they will help enhance mutual understanding. He hopes officials of competent US economic authorities will meet more Chinese entrepreneurs in the future, understand their needs and help solve their problems. When it comes to serving the enterprises by the two governments, there is no such thing as best services. The governments should always pursue better services.
Dai said that entrepreneurs of China and the US have made outstanding contributions to the development of the bilateral ties since President Nixon visited China 40 years ago. The bilateral relations will gain greater development and build a new path of relationship between major powers in the next 40 years. It will require the continuous efforts and contributions of entrepreneurs of both sides. The task of the two governments is to create better conditions for the bilateral business cooperation.
Clinton and Geithner noted that business cooperation is a major component of the US-China relations. US companies hope to increase exports to China and gain easier access to the Chinese market. At the same time, the US government welcomes the investment from Chinese companies and pledge to further improve visa and other related services.
Chinese entrepreneurs hope the US government can create a more open and fair market environment allowing free competition, grant equal treatment in terms of visa, scrutiny, research subsidies and M&As, provide facilitation for Chinese companies to invest in the US, further open the financial market, strengthen infrastructure cooperation and truly relax restrictions over the exports of civilian goods to China. They and their US counterparts all indicated their expectations to make greater contributions to the economic and social development of China and the US.
