The 2003 Chinese Film Festival featuring a selection of nine films toured Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurchin in late November.

The films included features and documentaries by some of China's top film-makers. These included Zhou Yu's Train (director Sun Zhou) starring Gong Li (Farewell My Concubine and Raise the Red Lantern), Life Show starring Tao Hong - a new rising star (Life Show was the Academy Winner of the 2002 Shanghai International Film Festival), Missing Gun starring Jiang Wen and Ning Jing and Green Tea starring rising stars Jiang Wen and Zhao Wei.

At a reception hosted at the Chinese Embasssy, Ambassador Chen Mingming warmly welcomed the senior delegation from China will visit New Zealand, including the director and leading actor of the film Fighting The Torrent.
The Chinese Film Festival was organised by the Pacific Culture & Arts Exchange Centre in Auckland, who last year organised a very successful New Zealand Film Festival in China. Other organisers included China Film Bureau, New Zealand Film Commission, Chinese Embassy in New Zealand.
