"Chinese Archaeological Photo Exhibition" opened in Wellington(24/09/2003)

To mark the 54th anniversary of the founding of the People?s Republic of China, the ?Chinese Archaeological Photo Exhibition? opened at the Michael Fowler Center, Wellington, New Zealand, on 24th September 2003.

The exhibition features 100 large colour photographs of the one hundred most significant archaeological discoveries made in China in the 20th century. The photographs display the excavation sites and artifacts which cover a period of 1.7 million years.

Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand Mr. Chen Mingming, who presided over the opening ceremony, noted that the Chinese government has attached great importance on protecting the outstanding archaeological treasures.

Among the more than 200 guests attending the opening ceremony were Mayor of Wellington, ministers of the New Zealand government, Members of the New Zealand Parliament, diplomatic envoys and local celebrities.

The exhibition, which is organized by the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand, will be lasted from 24th September to 2nd October, 2003.
