Good-will delegation from the Communist Party of China

Invited by the National Party of New Zealand, a good-will delegation led by Liu Jieyi, vice-minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, paid a visit to New Zealand from March 7 to 10. During the visit, Mr Liu met respectively with New Zealand politicians including Mr Peter Goodfellow, President of the National Party, Mr David Shearer, Leader of the Opposition, and Hon Dr Pita Sharples, Co-leader of the Maori Party, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade including Secretary John Allen and Deputy Secretary Andrea Smith. He also met with the board members of the New Zealand China Council, and delivered a speech at the Centre for Strategic Studies of the Victoria University of Wellington.

Mr Liu briefed the New Zealand side on the 18th Party Congress of the CPC and the "two sessions" (NPC & CPPCC), underlining the important opportunities that China's development provides to its deepened and win-win cooperation with the rest of the world, and stressed that the Chinese side stands ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with New Zealand so as to push ahead the development of the bilateral relations and contribute to the peace, stability and prosperity of the world.

The New Zealand side appreciated China's efforts in propelling scientific and harmonious development and indicated that China is very important to New Zealand's future and that New Zealand is willing to deepen cooperation with China so as to work together bringing fortune to the peoples of the two countries and of the Asia-pacific region at large. The political parties in New Zealand said that they are ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the CPC, in order to enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples and promote the New Zealand-China relations.
